Amelia on Jeff: He hails from the Boston burbs - loves Cabot cheese and insists that “real” apple cider only comes from the East Coast. He went to Dartmouth (because he’s a smarty pants) where I’m convinced he majored in rock-climbing and where he met some of my favorite people (who I would eventually meet in San Francisco!). When I first met Jeff I thought he was a fancy Yale-ie and business school bro (I quickly found out he was a true mountain-man-dirtbag with the FILTHIEST car I had ever seen and a total goofball).
One of my favorite Jeff experiences was early on when I flew out to Boston for a weekend to hang out. He kicked off the weekend with taking me for coffee at one of my favorite Italian cafes in the North End, we took out a little dinghy and sailed the Charles, and he hosted a dinner party where he cooked lobster (maybe he was trying to impress a girl…?). We climbed at Rumney and stayed in a secret bunkhouse at Moosilauke Lodge, then on the Sunday I was flying back to SF, Jeff took me up my first multi-pitch climb on Cannon Cliff. He insisted we do so in costume (chicken hats, gold onesies)…truly a man after my own weird art-school San-Francisco-costume-closet-loving heart. We totally mixed up my flight time home so we had to drive 90 miles an hour to get to Logan on time. We were kissing at every stop light and I had to ride the plane home covered in lake water and dirt. He is SO stubborn, an environmentalist who wants to save the world, more creative than he gives himself credit for. I couldn’t imagine life without him. Also he adores Shasta.
Jeff on Amelia: Amelia grew up in Grosse Pointe, Michigan. You wouldn't know that from meeting her - at first she comes across as a crazy energetic and sarcastic designer. But she still has a bit of that euchre-playing midwestern sweetheart in her. I met her on a backpacking trip to Sykes Hot Springs in Big Sur California. She seemed super-fun, but also a little crazy... and for some reason she was really scared of hippies. Once we started hanging out I discovered she can do everything: shoot guns, draw beautiful comics, and cook almost as well as me!
When we moved to Colorado, we didn't know many people. But Amelia led the charge to build a delightfully energized friend group, and together we've come up with all sorts of new adventures and competitions that keep life constantly interesting. And as we've settled down (just a bit), she's even developed a tiny bit of patience with my and with our goofy dog as we all careen through life.
